Additional The Texas Fiddle Collection Information
|
This wonderful record serves as both a stunning example of Gimble's awesome technique and also as a summary of the rich, vibrant history of Texas fiddling. The 28 songs are divided into three categories: contest fiddling in solo and duet form; small-group string-band arrangements that resemble the acts of the early 20th century; and big-band Western swing popularized by Texans such as Bob Wills and Milton Brown. Gimble is equally adept at all styles, and he receives sympathetic support from legendary musicians such as rhythm guitarist Eldon Shamblin (like Gimble a veteran of Wills's Texas Playboys), bassist Jim Boyd (a Light Crust Doughboy), and fiddler Cliff Bruner (once one of Brown's Musical Brownies). The songs range from turn-of-the-century square dances to traditional waltzes to the songbooks of Wills and Brown. The music is ebullient, the players are magnificent, and the varied arrangements keep things interesting. --Marc Greilsamer

What Customers Say About The Texas Fiddle Collection:

Enjoyed the music. Great fiddle swing music, and I couldn't believe he could play that fast on one of the songs. Good dance music.
This master of the Texas fiddle style displays his art with the precision and intrepretation of a true virtuoso. Great music by a great artist. This is Texas fiddle music in its purest form. May these great songs of the Texas fiddle live on and on. Johnny Gimble: Texas Fiddle Virtuoso.
Out of this world, How can we get more. I danced to Bob Wills and Johnny Gimble's music at the treonon ballroom in Okla. Citty in 1950,and also at Wills ranch house in Dallas Somewhere in the earley 50's
As usual, Johnny Gimble is at his best. As a fiddle player you can appreciate Mr Gimble's style and the way he adds his own hotlicks without taking away from the song (emp. Twinkle Little Star) Hopfully one day I can meet Mr Gimble and relay this face to face.
